Aachener Verkehrsverbund GMBH (AVV)

BRIEF PARTNER PROFILE

Aachener Verkehrsverbund GmbH is the public transport authority for the Aachen region. AVV is formed by the municipalities Stadt Aachen, StädteRegion Aachen, Kreis Heinsberg and Kreis Düren. In addition AVV is located in a border region, thus it has common borders with Belgium and the Netherlands. The core tasks of AVV are to plan, organize and to develop local public transport for the mentioned area. Topics in this context are related to tariff, transport planning, customer information, marketing and coordination in the field of cross border public transport.

AVV is very experienced in the field of cross border public transport as well as digitalization in context of public transport. AVV is located in a border region with borders to Belgium and the Netherlands. Therefore coordination in the field of cross border public transport forms an important part of AVV’s responsibilities. Furthermore AVV is an active stakeholder in the field of passenger information systems as well as electronic fare management.

PROJECT INVOLVEMENT

AVV contributes to the MaaS4EU project by delivering a cross border pilot together with partners from Luxembourg (WP8, T8.3). In this context we provide required data on the one hand and to build up cooperation that allows passengers to travel on the corridor between AVV and Luxembourg. The aim is to offer corresponding information and reservation/booking processes from one hand. Building on its expertise, AVV also contributes to the MaaS ecosystem (WP2) and MaaS protype business model (WP3).

KEY PERSONNEL

Mr. Dominik Elsmann (Male): has a background as an economic geographer. He used to work for RWTH Aachen University as a scientific assistant and was the responsible project manager for a European project in the field of public transport. Since May 2015 Dominik Elsmann works for Aachener Verkehrsverbund GmbH. Over there he is responsible for coordination in the field of cross border public transport. Furthermore he works in several European projects dealing with issues of public transport.
