Department for Transport (DfT)

BRIEF PARTNER PROFILE

The DfT works with agencies and partners to support the transport network that helps the UK’s businesses and gets people and goods travelling around the country. The DfT’s responsibilities include providing policy, guidance, and funding to English local authorities to help them run and maintain their road networks, improve passenger and freight travel, and develop new major transport schemes; awarding and managing rail franchises and regulating rail fares; improving English bus services through funding and regulation; working to make roads less congested and polluted by promoting lower carbon transport; and encouraging the use of new technology such as smart ticketing and low carbon vehicles.

PROJECT INVOLVEMENT

DfT’s main contribution is in WP2 where it informs T2.5 the MaaS enabling policy framework and also contributes to T2.2 the MaaS ecosystems requirements. Further, in WP3, it adds to WP3 in T3.3 Financing and revenue allocation models, and leads T3.4 legal and regulatory barriers. DfT’s perspective and expertise on the policy and regulatory issues as a government department adds great value to these WPs. Its unique position as an authority allows better understanding and insights as to how the policy and regulatory enablers could emerge to enable successful MaaS implementation. DfT also supports dissemination and exploitation activities as part of WP9 and WP10, drawing on its large stakeholder base to help reach a large audience and achieve high impact of the project’s results.
